VBSA News

Vale Daryl Ferenbach

It is with great sadness we advise the passing of Daryl Ferenbach last weekend.  Darryl was only 60 years old.

He was a member of the Maccabi Snooker Club for 26 years, a VBSA member for many of those years and also a former class 3 Snooker Referee.

The VBSA Board expresses its condolences to Daryl's family and the Maccabi community.

The funeral for Daryl was held at Springvale Cemetary on Friday 21st and a memorial service was then very well attended at the Bentleigh Club on Sunday 23rd. Daryl had no surviving immediate family and the packed Legends Room upstairs at the club, very appropriately adjacent to the Snooker room, was a testament to the esteem he was held in by his remaining family, his very many friends and his Snooker comrades at Maccabi.

World Junior Snooker Championships

Marc Fridman, winner of the 2019 Australian U21 Billiards Championship (see picture), has been selected by the ABSC to represent Australia at the World Junior Snooker Championship in China in July 2019. China is also an affiliate of Q School.

Marc says "Attending the World Championship will help me with my aspiring goal to become a professional Snooker player, as I'll be playing the top players from throughout the world, challenging them and learning from them, and hopefully have a win.

Attending the Championships will also help me become wider known throughout the snooker community, where I'll be able to meet new people and make new friends who will not only help me grow in snooker but also grow as a more confident person.

At the championships there will also be world professional snooker coaches who I'll be able to get help from to improve my skills and who will teach me things I can take back home and practice and work on and can pass the things I have been shown to other aspiring snooker players. With this knowledge, I will also assist at the 2019 Victorian and Australian U18 titles  and help grow this sport, as I see the pleasure my Dad gets from helping the juniors and want to be part of that in the future."

Marc requires substantial funding to cover expenses so any help would be appreciated, acknowledged and is fully tax deductable.  Please contact his Dad, Tony, on 0414 534 575 if you can help.
